Overview
Traditional energy cooperatives often struggle with information silos between departments. The goal was to turn a fragmented internal network into a single, user-centric hub — balancing technical utility with the welcoming, community feel of a member-owned organization.
The challenge
Decades of disparate data needed a logical architecture. Safety protocols and engineering manuals had to be as easy to find as company news, security standards had to hold, and the site had to perform in areas with limited connectivity for field crews.
Process
Stakeholder interviews showed staff felt overwhelmed by the old, cluttered layout. User-flow audits identified the most frequent path-to-task actions, which drove a restructured mega-menu, global search, modular components, a custom icon set, and flexible grid layouts for everything from video safety briefings to interactive maps.
Outcome
Launch brought a rise in daily active users and fewer IT tickets about document retrieval — a tool that doesn't just store information, it supports the people who keep the lights on.
